We just bought a new house and it has a fireplace. We have closed our damper and had a metel sliding door installed and I can still feel a draft coming through. Its pretty cold in that general area. This is a new house so I'm not sure why was are getting such a draft. Is this normal for fireplaces? Should we insulate it? Since we never use this for gas/or wood could we put some insulation in there for the winter? ThanksDraft coming from Fireplace? New house should this happen?
my fireplace did that for years until I finally packed the damper area with fiberglass insulation. I was told that I could close off the chimney at the top with insulation and it would stop the air from coming in also. I ended up putting a glass door on the fireplace and sealing it up completely.Draft coming from Fireplace? New house should this happen?
Most newer fireplaces have fresh air intakes that allow outside air to come in. Look for controls near the bottom that will close these off.
insulation is perfect but i would also use cardboard or wood to cover the top of the fire box where the flu starts this helps eliminate dust
