How do you get the smell of dog out of carpet.Sister just bought a new house. The old owners had4dogs.Stinky!!!

First, try having the carpet cleaned... after it dries, coat it with baking soda and let it soak in for an hour or so. Then vacuum it. If the smell comes back, you will either have to redo the baking soda or pull the carpet as it (and the padding) are probably saturated. If you end up pulling the carpet, make sure the floor beneath it is throughly cleaned. If it smells too, you may need to seal the floor before recarpetting.

I had the same deal. What is wrong with people? LOL

Good luck! How do you get the smell of dog out of carpet.Sister just bought a new house. The old owners had4dogs.Stinky!!!
Unfortunately, the only way is to replace the carpet and padding. You might also find the floor is stained and in need of a good sanding. As far as I know there is no other way as the stink will always be there.if you don't replace everything and sand the floors where they are stained. How do you get the smell of dog out of carpet.Sister just bought a new house. The old owners had4dogs.Stinky!!!
If she can't replace the carpet, she should rent a steam cleaner from a hardware or grocery store. You can buy solutions for it that are specifically for pet stains and odors.
you can try a steam cleaner, but if the urin has soaked through to the wood it may take several times to get it all. if it were cats i would throw it all away.
Replace it. It may be harboring germs, fleas and other nasty stuff as well as the smell.
Carpet Shampoo
My brother has a stinky dog. You walk into his home and the smell just about knocks you over! I went through his house and dumped baking soda on his carpeting, let it sit for awhile, and then vacuumed it up. The baking soda works great at absorbing odors. Then I took a bottle of febreze and sprayed over the carpeting. It worked great! Try this first before you spend a lot of money or do anything drastic like ripping out the carpets. Replacing carpets are expensive!!
if your sister can afford a new house then surly she can afford a new carpet that's the first thing you would buy
I agree with most of the others...

Get the carpet professionally cleaned, ask them if they have a special pet odor treatment as well.

If that doesn't work, you may have to pull it up and replace it.
I would tear up the old carpet. The subfloor or hardwood floors under may be damaged too.
New carpet may be the only way. You can use a steam cleaner and put some OUT! (pet stain and odor remover) in the cleaner before you clean the carpet. It may help.
buy a large bottle of orange blast from auto motive dept at walmart. Rent a carpet vac. You may have to do several times.
I personally would buy a shampooer and shampoo the carpets but you can go to Wal-mart or whatever and get some stuff that is made to remove pet smells from the carpets.
Sorry...replace the carpet. No matter what you do there will be the smell deep in the fibres and no matter how much you steam clean, use carpet fresh fragrances, or whatever, there will be the smell. If it is wall to wall, project. If it is an area rug, perhaps there is a nice wooden floor underneath and then you have that option unless the floor is stained. I pulled my carpet to find a beautiful wooden floor, slight travelled, but nice gold oak. Once the carpet was pulled, the floor was washed with some Pine Sol and it was like a forest, a new room and no recurring smell. Go for it!
Tell her to pull that gross carpet up! Would you leave a blanket on the floor that the previous owners dog had used?

Maybe she will get lucky %26amp; find hardwood!
did you tried using baking soda and water?
Hi, I think this product will work for you. Here's a link so you can read about it. A manager at a laundrymat I use to go to told me about it. She's an older woman who's worked in the laundry business all her life. They use it to clean things that have been in disasters like fires, flooding and sewer backups. The site can tell you where to buy it. I can find it at several of my local grocery stores in a spray type bottle but I prefer to buy the gallon size at my SAM's club. The gallon's at SAM's also come with a spray bottle attached to the side. I use this in my wash. You can use it all over the house and in RV's. It can also be used commercially like in hotels. It disinfects and kills bad stuff like HIV/AIDS virus too. Good Luck!
replace carpeting, that's about the only way, because that smell is deep down in the fibers.
