I bought a new house 6 months ago and only moving in now.the central heating(gas) isnt working.any ideas?

it hasnt been switched on in about 2 months and all the radiators remain cold when switched on.do the radiators need to be bled?I bought a new house 6 months ago and only moving in now.the central heating(gas) isnt working.any ideas?
If it's a new house then get the builders to come and fix it. No reason why you should be spending time on it, although it is bloody cold.

I imagine the radiators are full of air, buy a radiator bleed key from B%26amp;Q and under the screw (not all the way) at the top side of the rads. You should hear air rushing out. When water starts to come out then tighten the screw (not too tight). Then repeat with all the other rads. You'll probably need to repeat the process in a couple of days.

Alternatively it could be that the boiler pilot light is out. Check this firstI bought a new house 6 months ago and only moving in now.the central heating(gas) isnt working.any ideas?
Is the pilot light on? If you don't know what your doing then call an engineer. Do not mess about with gas!!!
To start with, call the gas company. They come quickly, they are absolutely free, and they know their stuff. If the problem is anything other than pilot light out, gas off, that sort of thing then they will tell you to call an HVAC company for further help. But odds are they will get it running quickly and for free.
did you call the gas co to start service?
You can try bleeding them but check that the dial for central heating is in the right position for heating, it could be set on zero. if all else fails, check if the pump is working, and it has the right water pressure.
Is the gas on and pilot lite?
THEY NEVER STARTED UP YOU HEAT! CALL WARRANTY!

IN SOUTH THEY'RE GAS FIRED NO WATER SYSTEM! IT IS/ WAS A COMMON OCCORANCE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, THEY MUST SEND A GAS APPROVED TECH TO RUN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME TO SEE THAT IT OPERATES SAFELY!
yes you could have air in them
Try the thermostat first?

Check that all necessary switches are on

Check the timer

Check the pilot light is on

Check you haven't been cut off of gas or electric

If all are OK it should work ;)

Just read Q again.

Rads need bleeding if they are hot at the bottom but cold at the top.
what kind of system is it ?
Ya sure the gas is is turned on?
What part of the country do you live in? Are you sure that there is a gas meter? Just because you bought the house doesn't mean the gas was turned on. Plumbers are the only people allowed by law to work on gas piping. Some HVAC companies have plumber techs who can work on your system. If you don't have a gas meter, you will have to hire a plumber to test your gas system. This requires a permit. He will have to inspect the system to ensure that everything is up to current codes. If he finds any code violations, he must repair or replace these items, and then call for an inspector to come by and check his gauge, and his work. I know this all sounds overwhelming, but it is for your safety. There is no price to high for peace of mind with combustible gas. Please don't scrimp on safety. Have a professional check it out!
