Do the room you spend the most time in first. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it's the room you are using the most and it's better to get it done and out of the way. In your case, perhaps it would be best to get the children's rooms sorted out first. It will also help them adjust to the move if they can help choose colors and decor. (I'm currently doing the same thing with my daughter.) Once you get them taken care of, then I suggest doing the kitchen or living room as that is also another area used a great deal during the course of the day.Does anyone have any suggestions about what room you should decorate first when you get a new house?
i would say the living room, beacause that's where everyone will be sitting at (like the people u invite to your new house).
I would start with the bathrooms, since this sounds like the room you will need the most with kids.
have to say I like dmb's answer

I would say the living room first. That way your kids will have somwhere to hang out while you start working on the other rooms.

But, dmb's answer made me laugh!
IGNORE EVERYONE ELSE!

Single mom, three kids (one special needs), new home, you have you hands full!

I think you should do your bedroom first! That way while all the daily BS builds up, you have your little space!

take care of yourself first this time, you probably deserve it.

JUST A THOUGHT: sweet talk your old man to come back around long enough to get him to do most of the work.... Then send him packing again!

Keep you head up!
do the master bed room first because normally that is the biggest room and then you can get your stuff settled in and work on the next room
Start with the room your family will use the most. If you feel your son needs the attention the most, I would suggest you start in his room. Or if your undecided on decor. Try your local consignment shop for small furniture items until you decide what you really want. You can really pick up some nice piece's for reasonable price's.

Other than that I would suggest the Kitchen! That would be my 1st project.
i think its best to paint all walls or redo floors first
You can decorate without spending a lot of money. I would start by looking in place like Big Lots. You can find a lot of things relatively inexpensivly. I would start in the rooms of your home that people are going to see the most. For example, I doubt a lot of your guests will be hanging out in the master bathroom but they will have to walk through the foyer to your living or dining room. Start there and then work back. Keep in mind when you are decorating that if you get less trendy items you won't need to replace them. Also, curtains are a good way to bring a warm more colorful look to a room. If you have a couch or chairs that are a neutral color, you can use throw cushions to accent.
Bedrooms first, then bathrooms, living areas such as the living room, then the rest of the inside rooms, then outside. One step at a time. When you have the girls working on their room you will be able to work on your sons room. Your room can be done whenever you get a chance here and there to knock it out. The bathrooms won't take long at all. The living room can be done while the kids are watching TV. Worry about the outside on the weekend if it is a new build it should be a while until you have to worry about the grass. good luck
I would make sure that you have at least bed in the bedrooms first, maybe do your son's room first off. Then the living room because that is where the guests will hang out (if you have any over.) Since you are starting from scratch, then don't go overboard with decorating. Good luck!
Give your daughters the tools they will need to decorate their own room. (Have them OK as much as you can on the buying end and placement end in the room.) Then make your boy's room comfortable for him. Whatever room gets used the most should be the first fully decorated room. Get advice from the kids on as many decisions as you can. It will help give them a sense of ownership of the new house and feel like home quicker.
