How long before i let my cats out into the garden of new house?

hi everyone i have 7 cats, but i will be moving home within the next 2 months to a smaller house with bigger garden, i have asked the vet how long they would take to settle and they said 3 weeks, god they will be climbing the walls and me too by then, does anyone have any advice on this as it would be a great helpHow long before i let my cats out into the garden of new house?
butter on the cats paws is an old wives tale. You should keep the cats in for at least a week, preferably longer but with some cats this is not possible. Try to take out one cat on a flexi lead so that it can explore without being free and risk getting lost. Please have them all micro-chipped with your new details, if they will wear a collar then put a collar on each cat with clear i.d. I have always tried to keep mine in for a week then go out with them for a short while. Also let them out before feeding then they will want to come home for food. How long before i let my cats out into the garden of new house?
when we moved house i only could keep them in for 1 night, it might be an old wives tale but i put butter on their paws and kept them in for a night then i kept the door open next day for them to have a roam round and they came back. good luck with your move.
the vet is right but you can speed up the process by going out with them one at a time for awhile oldest calmest cat first . make sure there are no threats to them other cats, dogs.predators etc. let them investigate the smells. they will know who is around for sure. also if any of your cats have a particular buddy take them out together good luck
Couple of days has always worked for me.

Remember to put butter on their paws.
Your vet doesn't know what he's talking about. Cats will always return to the place where they are fed so, as long as you feed your cats before letting them out, they'll be back.

Chances are they will want to explore your new home properly before the garden and thereafter extending their roaming range. They'll be fine.
In the past I've left it for about 3 weeks
Moved several times with my cats and always put butter on their paws, let them out and stayed with them while they sniffed around and marked their territory and it worked out ok.I do however feel sorry for your new neighbours having 7 lots of cat s--t dumped in their gardens!
if you take them out of the leash they should start rubbing the pavement and grass to leave there sent. as long as they have done this i cant see why you cant let them out. i would make them do it on the leash for about a week before letting them go on it.
Leave it for a week or so then, when you do let the cat out, put some butter on her paws, just before you let her out - it helps cats understand where home is - we moved a couple of times and not far from the previous house, using this method, we never had to go and collect our cat!
I moved several time with my cat Sinbad, and even though we got advice that we should keep him for two weeks. we let him out the second day when he was comfortable in the new house and everything had is place. it is impossible to keep Sinbad in, he like to have the choice especially at night.

My best friend has two cats and she moved for the first time last month, she tried to keep them in but she couldn't she only kept them in for a couple of night
i waited my vets 'three weeks' and my cat was gone for six months. if its a city house and the cats are not used to cars i wouldnt do it at all. Id wait atleast a month... try keeping them upstairs ( if you have a basement) and when they get crazy let them downstairs in the basement to explore and play... buy a cat perch and some treats. put the kitties in one room and then let them find the treats when you let them out. play with the kitties.
